What is a .pgm file?
Portable Graymap is an image format developed by Jef Poskanzer (Netpbm), first released in 1988. It is usually created by Computer-vision datasets, scientific cameras.
Greyscale with a maximum value of up to 65535, so it can hold 16-bit depth maps and microscope images that 8-bit formats would crush.
