Your files

OpenAnyFile has no upload endpoint. When you open a file, your browser reads it locally with the File API and it is decoded entirely on your device. We never receive a copy and never see its contents. There is no server-side code path a file could travel through.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are visited, the browser and device type, approximate location (city or region, derived from IP) and the referring page. When you open a file, an anonymous event records only its extension (for example "pdf") and which viewer handled it, so we know which formats to improve. File names and contents are never sent. You can block analytics with a browser extension; the site works the same.

Cookies and local storage

Google Analytics sets its own cookies. OpenAnyFile itself stores two things in your browser's local storage: your dark/light theme choice, and — if you use it — the names of recently opened files so you can see them again. File contents are never stored. You can clear the list from the opener at any time.

Offline cache

A service worker caches the site's own pages and code so the opener works offline. It never caches your files.

Third-party libraries

Some formats need an open-source decoder that your browser downloads from a public CDN (jsDelivr or cdnjs) the first time it is used. Those requests carry standard metadata such as your IP address to the CDN operator, governed by their privacy policies — never your file, because decoding happens afterwards, locally.

Children

OpenAnyFile is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. We will not start uploading files without rewriting this page first.
