Privacy policy
The short version: your files never leave your device. Everything below explains exactly what that means and what little data we do collect.
Your files
OpenAnyFile has no upload endpoint. When you open a file, it is read locally by your browser using the JavaScript File API and rendered entirely on your own device. We never receive a copy, never see its contents, and never store it anywhere. There is no server-side code path that a file could travel through even if we wanted it to.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are visited, roughly how, and from where. This collects standard technical data such as your browser type, approximate location (city/region level, derived from IP), device type and referring page. It does not, and cannot, see any file you open. You can block this with a browser extension or by enabling "Do Not Track" / blocking third-party cookies; the site works identically either way. Cookies & local storage
Google Analytics sets its own cookies (described above). Separately, OpenAnyFile uses your browser's localStorage to remember your dark/light theme choice. That preference stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
Third-party libraries
To render specific formats (spreadsheets, Word documents, archives, 3D models and similar) your browser fetches open-source viewer libraries from public CDNs (jsDelivr, cdnjs) the first time they're needed. Those requests carry standard web request metadata (like your IP address) to the CDN operator, governed by their own privacy policies — but never your file's contents, since parsing happens after the library has already loaded, entirely on your device.
Children's privacy
OpenAnyFile is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change too. We won't start uploading your files without rewriting this page to say so first.
