What is a .pbm file?
Portable Bitmap is an image format developed by Jef Poskanzer (Netpbm), first released in 1988. It is usually created by Netpbm, ImageMagick, GIMP.
Strictly black and white. The P1 variant is plain ASCII 0s and 1s you can edit in Notepad; P4 packs eight pixels into every byte.
