What is a .dds file?
DirectDraw Surface is an image format developed by Microsoft, first released in 1999. It is usually created by Game engines, NVIDIA Texture Tools.
Stores textures already compressed for the GPU (BC1–BC7, formerly DXT) together with their mipmaps — built to be uploaded to a graphics card, not displayed.
